Eco-Report

With the high cost of energy today and no relief in sight, WCA has been researching alternatives to not only our usage but to provide information and guidelines to the community. As an example, we have recently had an energy audit done on our electrical usage which consists of the sidewalk, street, event parking and landscape lights. Our goal is to improve the systems and reduce the energy usage. Although we already use Compact Florescent Lights (CFL) in the sidewalk fixtures to save energy, we can do better. Because it is time to replace the sidewalk fixtures, as scheduled in our reserve study, we are looking at the use of Light Emitting Diodes (LED) which should reduce our energy usage and costs by up to 60%!

We are also working with Maui Electric Company (MECO) and the County on developing a program to replace the street lights with new energy saving lights. Our landscape lighting will also be scheduled for a change as will the event parking lights.

A number of the hotels in Wailea are also planning on replacing all their fixtures with the energy saving LED lights. All in all, the resort community is looking for ways to save energy and the costs associated with it. You too can help by looking at alternatives such as LED lighting for your home or business. If you would like more information on LED lighting or other energy saving ideas please contact us.
